The City of Lethbridge is reminding local businesses and organizations to complete their 2025 waste diversion reports by Jan. 31, 2026.

If you have any old batteries that need to be disposed of properly, now is your chance. The City of Lethbridge is launching a Curbside Battery Collection Program, running from Nov. 18-28, 2025.

Food waste is a significant issue in Canada with over 58% of the food supply being wasted or lost annually, amounting to 11 million tonnes; which has major environmental, economic, and social consequences including high costs for households and businesses, a contribution to greenhouse gas emissions.

Municipalities and irrigators say they’re pleased with the Alberta government’s proposed changes to the Water Act. The province says Bill 7, the Water Amendment Act, which was tabled last Thursday, needs a significant update to address the province’s growth, as well as water shortages that parts of Alberta have experienced in recent years. The legislation has not been significantly updated since 1999, it says.

Alberta is set to allow for what it calls "lower-risk" interbasin diversion — referring to the transfer of water from one major river basin to another — as part of a suite of proposed updates to its Water Act unveiled Thursday.
