On Oct. 30, 2025, the Alberta legislature introduced Bill 7: Water
Amendment Act, which would make several changes to the Water Act around
water use reporting, transferring licenses, moving water between basins,
and more. In this blog, we summarize what the most significant of these
changes mean for the Oldman basin and for water license holders in our
watershed.

The OWC has received many requests for information about potential nuclear
energy projects and how they would affect the watershed and water security
in Alberta. In this FAQ blog, we answer the most common questions and
provide links for readers seeking additional information.
In 2023 and 2024, OWC took water samples upstream and downstream of
Lethbridge to get tested for pesticides. This was part of a Canada-wide
pilot project led by Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency, and
it’s given us new insight into the health of the Oldman River.
